Relaunch

Welcome back everyone!  First off, I would like to apologize for the prolonged downtime.  We had some issues with Joomla and some security exploits, and well - we were planning on switching over to WordPress anyway.  There are some issues we are still working out.  Our downloads section isn’t functional.  We know this, and we ask that you guys please bear with us as we are working on getting everything up. One more thing that isn’t working is comments. All comments go in for validation, so if you have a comment, please submit it only once. We are also working on this.

Also something new, if you look at our right sidebar, we are trying to put it to better use.  There are quick links to walkthroughs on how to jailbroke your iPhone.  If you scroll down a bit more, we have links to every single iPhone 2G and 3G firmware.

If you are looking to download QuickPwn 2.1, please download it from here. Again, we are working on the kinks of the website. If you have any feedback at all, please - like always, feel free to e-mail us at admin@theiphoneproject.org.

QuickPwn (Mac) and WinPwn 2.5 Beta released

WinPwn 2.5 Beta has been released. Please realize it is a beta. Use at your own risk!

Notes from winpwn.com:

  • QuickPwn Support for 2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2
  • Root partition resize support

The iphone-dev team have also released QuickPwn for Mac OSX. It was released on torrent to relieve some of the strain on the servers. We have also put it up for grabs in our download section.

From the iphone-dev team:

“QuickPwn is not a replacement for PwnageTool, they are different tools and provide different features, QuickPwn is for quickly pwning a device, whereas PwnageTool is designed to custom build and tailor the ipsw production process, both tools will be actively developed in the future.”

They have been released and are in our downloads section. Click here to go straight to the downloads section. We will be putting up some walkthroughs soon.

Some major updates

We have posted up a very detailed guide for QuickPwn RC3. The guide will show you how to use QuickPwn to jailbreak, activate, and unlock your iPhone (NOT 3G). Check it out here

We have also posted up PwnageTool 2.0.3 - but the iphone-dev team recommends you download it from their servers but we have it in our downloads section. Please follow their instructions as we are not trying to create any problems for you. You can read their blog at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/.

iPhone firmware 2.0.2

Don’t upgrade. We haven’t gotten word from the iphone-dev team if it’s safe to even use QuickPwn. They did state in a previous post that the 2G iPhone will always be unlockable and it’s impossible to lock without a hardware modification (something to that extent). So, again, sit back, relax, and just chill with your 2.0.1. Remember, QuickPwn is for 2.0.1, not 2.0.2.

QuickPwn by the iphone-dev team. It does exactley what it sounds like. Read the readme, only supports 2.0.1 as of now - and please, read the readme.

It’s in the downloads section!

We’ll be putting up a short and efficient walkthrough soon!

It’s here!

PwnageTool 2.0.2 has been released! The recommended method of download is to use the built in Sparkle updater, however, with the massive amount of people trying to update right now, you may see errorr such as “Update Failed, try again later.” We have a direct link to the tool in the downloads section here, enjoy!

If you download it without using sparkle please read the following note from the devs:

“Recommended method for updating is Sparkle (the internal updater inside PwnageTool) or using the Finder to decompress the files, don’t use command line tools to decompress as incorrect use will not preserve permissions, just double click the download above in the Finder. ”

“It is sparkling!” - iphone-dev

Some big news we haven’t been keeping you guys updated with, but you probably have already heard.

Some more fun cryptic messages flood the iphone-dev team’s blog. “It is sparkling!” - Sparkle is the auto update framework used that is used in many OSX applications (as well as PwnageTool) and the devs referenced “It is sparkling!” on their blog. The next update for PwnageTool (Mac) is coming and will be able to jailbreak firmware 2.0.1. Please stay tuned to the iphone-dev team’s blog and you’ll be able to find super fast downloads and walkthroughs right here on theiphoneproject.

As far as WinPwn - they claim it will be released shortly after PwnageTool 2.0.2, which seems feasible. The new screenshots look fantastic! It seems like it’s coming very soon so stay tuned to http://www.winpwn.com and keep checking back here. We’ll be writing walkthroughs and offering super fast downloads as soon as they’re released.

So, just stay tuned. Hold on to your pants and the 2.0.1 pwnage will shortly begin.

Should I update?

It’s that time again. Firmware 2.0.1 is out, and we know how tempting it is to hit that ever-famous ‘update’ button in iTunes, but if you want to keep all of your 3rd party apps you might want to hold off just a little longer. Neither Pwnage nor WinPwn currently supports Apple’s new firmware, but rest assured, the devs are working hard on updates that will.

From the devs:

“We don’t see any major problems with the release that Apple made, but we have not released an update for PwnageTool for it as yet and therefore PwnageTool 2.0.1 will currently not work!

If you absolutely can’t wait then original (2G) iPhone owners can update using iTunes if they really need to, but you’ll lose third-party applications that rely on the Jailbreak, although it is reported that the 2G device remains activated, we have not clarified this.”

A note for 3G users:
